Marinas in Gran Canaria
Thanks to the year round climate Gran Canaria offers a huge amount of outdoor activities. 236 kilometres of coastline together with warm waters ranging in temperature from 18ºC in winter to 22ºC throughout the rest of the year makes our island a haven for water sports enthusiasts.
In view of these natural conditions and the importance of the tourism sector in Gran Canaria a wide range of well equipped harbour infrastructures including sport marinas have been built. Centres, clubs and associations are dotted in nearly every corner of the island offering various water sport activities, equipment hire and pleasure boat trips.
Gran Canaria has produced over 30 World Champions in sailing including 6 Olympic gold medallists and several world famous sporting events are held here. One of the largest events is the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers held in November. Over 200 yachts from all over the world leave the harbour in Las Palmas on route to Santa Lucia in the Lesser Antilles islands. The 2,700 nautical mile route takes on average between 12 and 24 days.
An advantage for sailors who pass by Gran Canaria are the tax laws here, provisions and fuel are a lot cheaper here than in other European Countries so it’s a great place to stock up before you leave.
