Island hopping is great fun and a chance to see the different qualities of all 7 Canary Islands but it wasn't always common place. On 24 January 1941 the first air flight between Los Rodeos, Tenerife and Gando, Gran Canaria took place and a big celebration has been held to mark the 70th anniversary of the event. The original flight took place in a bi motor Dragon plane and the worlds of fashion and music were very different. For the 70 year celebration at Los Rodeos airport guests dressed in the clothes of the 1941 era and the theme was strengthened with live music from the Alabama Dixieland Band. Gran Canaria is a great base to explore the Canary Islands and now there is a strong network of inter island flights and ferries to make short breaks cheap and convenient. Settling in Gran Canaria opens the door to a new world of possibilities but with the superb climate and modern facilities in Gran Canaria it will always be nice to get back to your new home in the sun.
